About the flag

Radøy municipality lies in Hordaland county.

Boats are a favourite motive for many municipalities, and Radøy found a detail not in use by other municipalities, the rowlock. This is the device on the gunwale of the boat that supports the oar and giving force to the rower's stroke. The flag approved is two black rowlocks placed above each other on a field of yellow. Official approval was granted by Royal resolution of 14 June 1991. The designer was Even Jarl Skoglund.

The oar sockets are type of rawlocks (see Fosnes we talked about a few days ago), here depicted as those found in 1st century boats found in Mangersnes - being the oldes found of boats in Norway.
