Coat of Arms

[Flag of Lyngen] image by Tomislav Šipek, 08 December 2015

Blazon: I sølv en oppreist svart hest med hodet vendt bakover. In English: Argent a horse forcene reguardant sable.
Forcene is specifical for horses, although rare, probably more frequent would be simply rampant, or even salient.
Approved by the royal resolution of 11 September 1987 after a drawing by Arvid Sveen. [c2j88]
From http://www.ngw.nl/heraldrywiki/index.php?title=Lyngen:
"The arms show a local breed of sturdy horses, the Lygshest. The horse also represents the agriculture in the area and the silver field represents the sea and fish."
