Kalisz city flag

[Kalisz flag] by Pascal Gross, 8 Dec 2002

Kalisz: chequered of 49 (7 x 7) white and red, with a white canton (3 x 4 squares (width/height) with the coat of arms. The flag is swallow-tailed.
Pascal Vagnat, 19 May 1999

Kalisz: formerly a regional seat, now part of the Greatpolish region. ca. 110 thousand inhabitants, one of the oldest towns in Poland; it appeared as a trading post around the year 150 and was noted by the Roman geographer Ptolemy. German name: Kalisch.
Gwidon S. Naskrent, 6 Sept 2000

On this page is the strange looking flag after description and sketch by Pascal Vagnat. However at this webspage is a flag which looks a wee bit different: the chessboard is not 7x7 but 6x7, and the top swallowtail is red. The coat of arms in the canton is different too (but nearly invisible). The one I found on the web is used for this redrawing:.
