Szastarka - rural commune, Kraśnik County, Lubelskie Voivodship - older
name:gmina Brzozówka (until 1954).
Gmina Szastarka is a rural commune in Kraśnik County, Lublin Voivodship,
in eastern Poland. Its seat is the village of Szastarka, which lies approximately
12 kilometres (7 mi) south-east of Kraśnik and 48 km (30 mi) south of the
regional capital Lublin.
Area: 73.53 sq.km (28.4 sq.mi); Population: 6,236 (2006); An agricultural
commune; Land under cultivation - 85%; forests - 10%.
Very new commune - created on January1, 1973.
Before the war there was an airfield with huge storage tanks for fuel
and oils. It was burnt before the German's approach.
The brand new Arms and flag were adopted on May 8, 2009
The symbols are supposed to be related to the "history of the villages
of the commune and to the local tradition"
Both, Arms and flag, feature on the green field a golden bee-hive and
the golden cross with the ribbon saying "ECCE AGNUS DEI" ("behold, the
Lamb of God") on the right side, and the golden wheat stalk on the left
side.
