Atatürk University, established in 1957 in Erzurum, is composed of 22 Faculties, 6 Schools, 12 Vocational Schools and 8 Institutes.

The flag of the university (photo, photo, photo) is white with the university's emblem.
The emblem features traditional Seljuk elements: a double-headed eagle, a tree of life and two dragons.

The eagle was considered as a sacred symbol by ancient Turks. Shamans believed that the double-headed eagle was the offspring of an eagle and a woman. In central Asia, the eagle was a symbol of protection, fertility, power and nobility.
The tree of life is commonly used as a decorative element in Seljuk architecture. Ancient Turks considered it as the center of the world and a staircase to the sky.
The Seljuk dragons have a long body and nodes made of astronomical signs. They also symbolize evil and underground hell.
