The Flag

From the site of Ukrainian Heraldry:
"In the middle of red rectangular panel with a ratio of the sides as 2:3 is white sign "Copasyna" - two bent strips, between which is sword edge down."

The sign "Copasyna" seems to be a Polish nobility (Kopaszyna) coat of arms.

The emblem of the village of Potiivka is based on the Kopaszyna Coat of Arms. The settlement of Potiivka was established in 1652 and on February 5,1745, the Starosta (Alderman) of the Biala Cerkiew County (Bilotserkiev County), Prince Stanislav-Vincent Yablonovsky bestowed it as a Royal Grant for the outstanding military service to the Commonwealth of Both Nations to one Andrew Kompan, Rotmistrz (Rittmeister or Captain in modern terms) of the Land Militia. Kompan family belonged to the Kopaszyna Clan and left its mark on the history of the village of Potiivka by giving it their Coat of Arms - Kopaszyna. It is nice that modern Ukraine recalled the past of the village by awarding it elements of Kopaszyna Coat of Arm in the design of the present emblem.
