"It was confirmed in August, 1st, 1997 by the decision of
XVIII city council session of XXII convocation. The rectangular
green panel with sides ratio as 2:3 and city emblem in the centre
of it."

Heraldry:
"It was confirmed in August, 1st, 1997 by the decision of
XVIII city council session of XXII convocation. Vert; argent
swan, under it is seven argent waves in three rows - four, two
and one, on the dexter side is or ear with a leaf, on the
sinister is or sabre in sheath, turned from top to bottom. The
shield enframed by or cartouche and crowned by argent urban crown
with three prongs. The author is A.Rud'.
The swan ("lebid'") on waves personifies city and lake
by which city has received name. The sabre emphasizes a
historical role of settlement as fortresses, ear is symbol of
agrarian character of city economy. Vert color characterizes
dense woods which surround city from three parties.

Heraldry:
"It was founded as a settlement in 1658. The origin comes,
probably, from the name of the village Lebedyn in Cherkas'kyi
region where the first settlers have come from.
Since 1658 it was a squadron town of Sumy regiment."
