Winners were chosen last week in the Melvin-Sibley flag designing contest sponsored as an official bicentennial project by the history clubs of the junior and senior high schools. The winning Sibley flag was created by Janene Conger, a sixth grade daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Conger. Winners of the contest were announced Thursday, Feb. 19, during the annual history fair held at the Melvin-Sibley Junior High School.

The Sibley flag designer chose colors to represent Sibley Lake (blue), the grain (gold), and the Burr Oak trees (green). A Burr Oak tree leaf is featured in the upper left-hand corner.

First place winners for each town recieved $100 savings bond from the Melvin State Bank. Second prizes of two $50 saving bond from were donated by the Sibley Farms Third prizes of $25 were donated by the Melvin and Sibley Lion Club.

A photo of the flag was sent to me by the village administration. Also the text on the flag is not a part of the flag, as they told.
