Shortly after the new flag of Minnesota was adopted, a number of its LGBTQ+
variants have appeared, being derived by replacing the light blue fly field with
the patterns of various sexual orientation flags, most of which consist of a
number of horizontal stripes in various colors, thus being easy to combine. The
earliest to appear was a combination with the
11-striped Rainbow Flag for transgender and people of color.
It was
created by Michael Green of the Flags For Good flag manufacturing company [1].
The earliest photo of its use dates from February 2024 [2], although the precise
location is currently unknown. It spread wider during the summer 2024, being
used at the Pride events throughout Minnesota, such as the East Central
Minnesota Pride Festival in Pine City, in June [3], Itasca Pride in Grand
Rapids, also in June [4-6], Wright-Sherburne Pride in Monticello, in July [7]
and Bemidji Pride in Bemidji, in August [8]. Not all examples of its use are
from the Pride events, though, although some of those might be related, as they
were recorded in the same season [9], while the others, with which it was not
the case, are clearly unrelated [2].

The only other LGBTQ+ flag with currently verified use is the combination of
the state flag with the six-striped Rainbow Flag. It was used at the
Wright-Sherburne Pride 2024 in Monticello [10].

Another instance of the flag use was outside Minnesota: in January 2025, the
Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center in Kingston, New York flew the flag as the
sign of support for the anti-ICE protests in Minnesota. The flag was hoisted
with the purple stripe up, the opposite of how it is typically depicted,
suggesting that it might be another "no right side up" flag, although more
sightings would be necessary to tell that.

Another rarely used variant is the combination of the state flag with the
eight-striped Rainbow Flag. The only photos verifying its existence are from an
online vendor [1] and from a Reddit discussion about the new state flag [2]; the
latter of those was taken in December 2025, on a snowy day, presumably in
Minnesota and is currently the only evidence of its use. In both photos, the
colors slightly differ from those of Gilbert Baker's original creation, most
notably indigo, which is actually closer to blue of the six-striped Rainbow
Flag.
