The Sierra County flag was adopted for its hoisting in the state capitol in January 1993. It depicts a version of the county seal outlined in black over a brown field. The logo depicts the plowing of agriculture in the desert, the Elephant Butte reservoir with rocks inside of it, red chilis, the panning of gold, two cattle, and a man on horseback beside a wall. The seal is shaped as a shield. Of the inner elements, the aforementioned are found in the lower half; the upper half reads "SIERRA COUNTY" and "NEW MEXICO". There is an outer, shield-shaped ring as well; in the middle is another outline of a shield, thicker than the other ones.
