The flag is a white field with two thin blue horizontal bars at the top and
bottom of the flag. In the center of the flag is a simplified illustration of
the Grave Creek Mound, which is where Moundsville gets its name. Under the mound
are two crossed olive branches which stretch toward both sides of the flag.
Between the mound and the olive branch is the founding year of the city, which
is 1832. Above the mound are two yellow banners. This first banner is bigger and
contains the city name on it. The second banner is smaller and is inscribed with
the state name. Under the olive branches is the city motto, showing the
progression of the city through the unity of its people.
