Description of the flag

In Michigan are two lakes called "Crystal Lake". On those lakes are two yacht clubs called "Crystal Lake Yacht Club". The one called "Crystal Lake Yacht Club" is built on land won from the water. The original intent, in the 19th century, was to connect that Crystal Lake with Lake Michigan; half a mile away, but with a lower water level. Crystal Lake apparently lost water until its level became that of Lake Michigan.

In 1931, a Yacht Club was started, for two months a year, on some of the land drained in the previous century. A small fleet is kept to sail the lake in the summer.

The club has a burgee: blue, with capital letters C and L in red reaching the flywise edges, and in between them white.
