The Muslims in Vietnam are concentrated in southern part of the country; most of them are ethnic Chams, although there are people of other ethnicities as well1. Despite their small number (less than 1% of total Vietnamese population), Islam is one of the religions recognized by the state2. At the mosques, along with the national flag, green flag with white crescent and star is usually hoisted. The shape of charges is the same as used to decorate the mosque walls and adorn the peaks of domes, although in those cases their color is usually green, the star sometimes being additionally changed to gold (undoubtedly borrowed from the national flag). Regarding the size and orientation of the flag charges, several variants are recorded. One of them has the star above the crescent, much like the 1959-2017 flag of Mauritania, although the star is larger here, its size varying somewhat. Such flags were photographed in 2017 at the Kahramanlar Rahmet Mosque in the city of Chau Doc1. Tomislav Todorović, 27 June 2018 Sources: 1: IHH Foundation website

As with many other Vietnamese flags, vertical variant also exists; rows of small flags with this design, alternating with the national flags in its vertical variant, were used at the same place1. Tomislav Todorović, 27 June 2018 Sources: 1: IHH Foundation website

The whole device may be rotated for 90 degrees, the star having 3 o'clock orientation. This was photographed in 2015 at the Mubarak Mosque in the Tan Chau township, off the Chau Doc city1,2. While the flags are not completely visible, the source photo, when zoomed in, still reveals this orientation of emblem1. The orientation of device may also resemble the one from the flag of Pakistan, although the star is larger here as well and is not necessarily pointing towards the corner. Rows of flags with this design, combined with those of national flags, were photographed at the mosque in Phum Soai village near Chau Doc1. This flag was also photographed in 2014 in front of the Saigon Central Mosque in Ho Chi Minh City; unfortunately, the flag was not visible enough to reveal any details other than the field color, so it remains unknown which of the above variants, or maybe something different from them all, was used1.
