Hasan Kalyoncu University

HHKÜ (website) was established on 4 December 2008, as Gazikent University, by the Gaziantep Education and Service Foundation. set up in 1980 by Hasan Kalyoncu.
HKÜ is composed of 5 Faculties, 2 Schools, 1 Vocational School and 2 Institutes. The foundation also manages the Erdem Colleges (Kindergarten, Primary School, College and Sciences High School).

Hasan Kalyoncu (1949-2007; biography) was a businessman, involved in construction and a close friend of the former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan (1926-2011; in office, 1996-1997). With his three brothers, he established in 1974 the Kalyon Insaat company, active until 1980. Hasan Kalyoncu died from a heart attack when drafting the plans of the university, whose establishment was continued by his brothers.

Sanko University

Sanko University (website) was established by Regulation No. 6,492, published on 18 June 2013 in the Turkish official gazette, No. 28,681. The university is managed by the Sani Konukoğlu Foundation, established in 1989 by Sanko Holding and the Konukoğlu family.
Sanko University is composed of a School of Medicine, a Faculty of Health Sciences, a Faculty of Dentistry, the Health Sciences Institute and a Graduate School of Sciences.

Sanko Holding originates in seven weaving hand-looms established in 1904 in Gaziantep by Sani Konukoğlu. In 1935, the founder's son, Zekeriye Konukoğlu, employed 70 workers. In 1943, Sani Konukoğlu inherited the family business and transformed it into a major corporation. Cotton factories were established in the 1960s. Hilal Inc., founded in 1966, was renamed to Sanko Textile in 1977, with a capacity of 30,000 spindles. Sanko Holding was formed in 1996.
The group, employing 14,000, is active in construction (Narlıdere, Adıyaman and Bartın cement factories), textile industry (Pure Cotton Textile, Asko Textile, Isko Textile), automobile industry (Başak Tractor and Agricultural Machinery), health (Private Sani Konukoğlu Hospital), education, food (Sansu Food and Soft Drink Inc.) and energy (Yokuşlu - Kalkandere, Sanibey and Cevizlik hydroelectric plants, Sankores Çatalca wind turbine).

The earliest records available suggest that GTO (website) was first founded under the name of Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce in 1898. It was later known as the Chamber of Agriculture between 1902-1903, as the Chamber of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry in 1904, as the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce and Industry until 1989 and finally renamed as the Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce on 15 May 1989.

The Gaziantep Chamber of Industry (Gaziantep Sanayi Odası - GSO; website) was established by Resolution No. 81,173, enacted on 15 August 1908 by the Ministry of Industry, fulfilling an application tabled by 1,146 industrialists.

Gaziantepspor (Gaziantepspor Kulübü) was formed in 1969 under guidance of the then city major Abdulkadir Batur. Batur organized a meeting among 58 of the cities most influential members to discuss laying the foundations for a sports club in the city. The group met repeatedly and founded the club in the same year, electing Beşir Bayram as Gaziantepspor’s first chairman.
After spending most of their history in the lower divisions Gaziantepspor achieved promotion to the Turkish Super League in 1990 and have remained their ever since. The club have been growing in size and stature at a steady pace, finishing 3rd in the 1999–2000, 2000–2001 seasons and 4th in 2002-03, 2003-04, 2010-2011.

Gaziantepspor’s emblem (description) represents the cities landmarks. Gaziantep castle is symbolized by the outline of the logo. Above the Gaziantep banner lies the martyr's memorial, the checkered background represents the cities treat to the world, the famous dessert Baklava. In the foreground is a falcon which is the club's nickname as well as the name of one of the city's heroes, Şahinbey.

The club's supporters used square flags quartered black and red (photo), the club's colours (description).
Gazi in Turkish means "a war veteran". Antep was legally renamed Gaziantep in 1921 meaning “Victorious Antep", a title the city was awarded for the inhabitants' valiant war efforts fighting off invading forces in First World War. The founding members chose the club's colours to represent this. Black is in commemoration of the fallen martyrs who died protecting the city during the war, while red represents the blood shed by the town's heroes who died during the conflict.

Gazantiep BB

Gaziantep BB (Gaziantep Büyükşehir Belediyespor Kulubü) was established in 1988 by the municipality of Gaziantep. The club played in the First League for the 1997-2001 seasons. Relegated, it won the Second League the next season and was reincorporated to the First League, in which it has been playing since then.
