Description of the flag

White flag with two vertical green bars at hoist and fly.  In center, a crown, and the words CORONADO and The Crown City.
Blas Delgado Ortiz, 1 August 2002

Coronado is home to about 26,000 people. It is connected to San Diego by the San Diego-Coronado Bay Bridge, with its distinctive curved span. Coronado is surrounded by water -- the Pacific Ocean, Glorietta and San Diego bays and is home to North Island Naval Air Station and the Naval Amphibious Base.

Coronado is almost, but not quite "surrounded by water." Coronado is connected to the mainland by a narrow spit of land stretching to the southeast, called the Silver Strand, consisting largely of a state park and Navy property. But even in San Diego most people refer to Coronado as an "island", even though technically it isn't.
