The Official Flag of the City of Jackson

The City Council adopted the City Flag design in 2007 following an open contest for the City's first official flag. The winner was created by Jana Davis and she provided the following information regarding the design (which was slightly modified by adding the City name and incorporation date and using 47 stars to signify the number of men who died in the 1922 Argonaut Mine disaster):

  • the color green symbolizes Life, Growth, Sports, Wealth, Renewal, Health and Youth. It is restful and is the color of Jackson's Argonaut Mustangs.
  • The color maroon or burgundy symbolizes Wealth, Success, Prosperity, Courage, Bravery and Strength. It is also the color already used for the City logo, so it is closely associated with Jackson.
  • The stars individually represent excellence, safety, good and truth. (As noted, it was later decided to use 47 stars to honor the Argonaut Miners).
  • The circle is a symbol of wholeness, perfection, unity and love of humanity.
  • The circle of stars represents unity, solidarity and harmony.
  • The City logo was used because it is widely recognized. It also represents the historic qualities of this fantastic town.
"My flag design represents what I see every day here in Jackson and what I love about the place I call home.
Jana Davis."

Early Version

I found an image of the original version of the flag, before it was altered upon request of some Councilmen. The original version has a brown half and no "City of Jackson". See it here: www.ledger-dispatch.com/content/img/f227117/10_12JaxFlag.jpg.
