Municipal flag of Stabroek

The municipal flag of Stabroek is horizontally divided yellow-blue with three eight-pointed stars: the first one, blue, in the left part of the yellow stripe; the second one, yellow, in the left part of the blue stripe; and the third one, counterchanged, near the middle of the flag.

According to Gemeentewapens in België - Vlaanderen en Brussel [w2v02a], the flag was adopted by the Municipal Council on 6 April 1987, confirmed by the Executive of Flanders on 7 July 1987 and published in the Belgian official gazette on 3 December 1987.
The colours of the flag are based on the colours of the municipal arms. The stars come from the second and third quarters of the arms.

According to Servais [svw55a], the arms of Stabroek, granted by Royal Decree on 12 September 1924, are derived from the arms of the Van Haeze family, lords of Stabroek from the late 16th century until 1762.
The yellow colour of the flag must come from the first and fourth quarters of the arms, "Or three bend gules, the fields or charged with a roundel gules, two roundels of the saem, two roundels of the same and a fleur-de-lis azure". The second and third quarters of the arms are azure an eight-pointed star.

The supporters of the korfball club Hoevenen KC use a flag vertically divided yellow-blue.
A more elaborated yellow-blue flag bears "Hoevenen KC" in blue letters in the yellow stripe and a yellow emblem surmounted the yellow letters "YBCC"; it seems to be a flag designed by the "Yellow Blue Casual Crew" supporters' group.

Yellow and blue are also the municipal colours of Stabroek, whose flag sometimes appears in korfball events.
