After the Second World War and until the mid-fifties only civil aeronautics
were allowed in Germany and in the two German states. From 1953 on there
was civil air traffic carried out by German companies. Military air traffic
was assumed by the four Allied powers until the creation of the Bundeswehr
in the Federal Republic of Germany and of the National
People's Army (Nationale Volksarmee) in the German
Democratic Republic.
