Westerngrund Coat of Arms

Shield Gules; a lion rampant issuant Or, crowned, armed and tongued Azure and holding a herdsman's shovel Or in pale by his forepaws; in sinister chief hammer and mallet Argent in saltire.
Meaning:
The municipality was established in 1972 by a merger of the municipalities Huckelheim, Oberwestern and Unterwestern, which all were located in the name giving Westerngrund, a steep valley. The lion is a differentiation of the arms of the Counts of Schönborn, whose tinctures had been gold and blue. They had been local rulers including the local cognisance. The shovel is an attribute of St. Wendelin, the local patron saint. Hammer and mallet are symbolising the former mining of copper and silver in Huckelheim.
