Introduction

It should be noted, that in the years 1949 to 1953, the existence of a presidential flag is not assignable. There are no pictures and no legal juristical text.

This flag is very similar to the national state flag (adopted 1956), but contains the coat of arms of 1953 to 1955, which is a little different from the later one (the compass was reversed in 1955). The coat of arms was first published in the Siegelordnung der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik (Order on Seals of the DDR) on 28 May 1953.
