Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a castle Or masoned Sable with three embattled towers of the same, with windows Sable and port Gules. The central tower has an additional cone roof Gules. In port St. Mary Magdalene Or.
Meaning:
Stadler displays a similar coat of arms with different tinctures as follows: shield Or, a castle Gules masoned Sable with three embattled towers, with port and windows Or. In port St- Mary Magdalene Argent dressed Azure, between the towers two inescutcheons Azure, ech one charged with a lion rampant Or accompanied by billets Or, the dexter shield is placed in bend sinister, the sinister one in bend, both lions are respectant to one another.
Mengerskirchen gained city rights in 1321, which remained however defunct. Mary Magdalene is the local patron saint. The current pattern was first mentioned in the great seal of 1398. The inescutcheons display the arms of the Counts of Nassau, then being rulers of the city. A seal from the 15th century displayed Mary Magdalene issuant from a Nassau shield. The saint disappeared in the seal from 1617 and appered again in the seal of 1816. Since 1946 the arms were based on the oldest great seal. Later on, probably just before 1975 the tinctures were changed and the inescutcheons of Nassau were omitted.
