The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a white over red horizontal bicolour. The coat of arms is in the centre of the flag.

It is a white - red vertical bicolour interrupted by a white rectangle in the upper half. Within the rectangle shifted to the top is the coat of arms. Beneath the arms is the city's name in black capitals.

Description of coat of arms:
A golden (=yellow) field is divided by a Markian chequered bar. Above the bar is the upper part of a red, rampant stag.
Meaning:
According to source the arms are those of the former rulers, the counts of Mark added by a distinguishing mark, which is canting (stag in German: Hirsch).

The coat of arms was approved by Oberpräsident of the Prussian province of Westphalia on 17 October 1935. Flag and banner probably not have been approved officially but in the municipality's Hauptsatzung, version 1999 a the existence of a flag is mentioned, the description is however not very precise.
