Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale; at dexter Gules, between two oars Or in pale, two fish Argent in saltire facing downwards and superimposed by a fish Argent in pale facing upwards; at sinister Azure, on base Vert an angel statant, dressed and winged Argent, holding a saltire Sable standing on base.
The arms display the arms of the former independent municipalities of Kappel and Grafenhausen without any changes. Both were based on local seals from 1617 (Kappel) and 1650 (Grafenhausen). Fish and oars are alluding to the location of Kappel on the banks of Rhine and Elz. The meaning of the angel representing Grafenhausen is completely unknown.
