Coat of arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is tierced per pale reversed. The 1st field shows in a silver(=white) field a black hawthorn having ten red hips. The 2nd field shows in a silver(=white) field a black rampant dog tongued red. The 3rd field is a silver(=white) field divided by a black centred cross.
Meaning:
According to source the hawthorn is taken from the former arms of the city. The number of hips is symbolizing the ten settlement cores, which formed the new city. The dog is taken from the arms of the dissolved municipality of Boke. The origin of the cross is doubtful. The archbishopric of Paderborn used red and gold. Some say that it had to do with a pilgrimage to the Holy Cross, maybe a church, in Delbrück.
