Hausen Coat of Arms

Shield Argent over an abased fess wavy Sable an andiron pall Gules.
The andiron, also called fire dog, is taken from the arms of the Counts of Hiltenbuch. Hausen belonged to the Lordship of Hiltenbuch and was acquired by the Bishopric of Würzburg in 1228. A print of the comital seal had been on the document of assignment from 1228. The ancestral seat of the kin had been the nowadays ruined Hildenburg Castle, which is located in Hausen. The tinctures silver and red are those of the bishopric. The fess wavy is a representation of Schwarzes Moor (=black swamp), the biggest upland moor of the Rhön. It is home for many rare species of flora and fauna.
