Description of coat of arms:
In a blue field is a silver (= white) castle masoned black with three embattled towers. Port and windows are blue. The central tower is bigger and topped by a white gonfanon showing a red griffin. The flagpole is golden (=yellow) with a cross at the top. The port of the castle is open and has a golden ( = yellow) door and a portcullis of the same colour.
Meaning:
The castle might symbolize the city rights. The image on the gonfanon is the griffin of Pomerania.

According to Günther 1998 was adopted by the city council for the celebration of the 675-years anniversary in 1994. The flag was approved by minister of interior of Mecklenburg-Westpomerania on 21 July 1994.
