- Admiral or Chief of Naval Staff: four stars
- Vice Admiral, upper half: three stars
- Vice Admiral, lower half: two stars

Album des Pavillons[pay00] shows the division commanders' flag as blue flag with a white cross, swallow-tailed when the commander is a Captain and triangular when he is of a lower rank.
