Overview

Csömör (in Slovakian Čemer) is a large village in Pest county near Budapest.
István Molnár, 31 August 2001

Csömör is a large village in the Gödöllõ District in Pest county, Hungary. It lies in the Budapest metropolitan area, north of the 16th district of Budapest on the western part of the Gödöllõ hills, in the turning of the Csömör stream.
The first written, documented mention of Csömör dates back to 1135, making it the oldest documented settlement in the region. The village was depopulated during the Tatar invasion, and its resettlement began in 1715.
The folk tradition is real and alive here: many of the “aunts” of the Slovak families who settled there still wear folk costumes on weekdays. In 1826, Germans were settled here from the Buda vineyards to replace the population decimated by the great cholera epidemic of 1811.
Csömör was declared a large village in 1985.

The second quarter shows a green triple pile on a yellow background, with a white double cross rising on top. The third quarter also has a yellow base color. In the middle is a golden bunch of grapes on a green leaf. The fourth quarter is blue, on which is a divided shield tilted on its side, silver, and gold in color. Above it is a silver helmet with a gold and silver feather decoration.
The coat of arms was adopted by the same Local Government Decree.
