The emblem is a stylised hiragana te and a crane (of the Maizuru Mountain in the centre of the city), flapping its wings towards the sky, and symbolises Tendo's great leaping development. (The kanji Ten of Tendo means heavens/sky.)

The city emblem was adopted on Apr 1st 1963 and the flag was adopted on Dec 13th 1989 by Notice No 67. The bluish purple flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized hiragana て Te of Tendo. It represents an exponential development of the city like a crane in Mt. Maizuru in the center of the city flying in the sky. The flag proportion is 2: 3. The diameter of the emblem is 3/5 the height of the flag. The law says the color of the flag field should be a bluish purple so it is Tomislav’s 1st image.
