The coat of arms was designed by Prof. José Octavio Calderón Baray, being approved by the council on 7 April 1985. It was the result of a contest held by the council under Municipal President Horacio Orozco Mendoza, for the coat of arms and motto of the municipality. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:
The shield is divided into four sections. Inside the upper section the historic deed of the foundation of the town is described [by the Franciscans as a mission, three pumpkins are depicted below the mission remembering the place's namesake]; in the left side the presence and migration of Indian groups that inhabit these parts to the mountains is signaled. In the middle part appears symbols of patriotism, of the vindication struggles in which the Bachinivenses have participated [musket and sword], with the symbol unity of all Mexicans [wreath]. The contour of the yellow background is presided by good fortune, with three clovers of four leaves [*only two are depicted in reality]. Furthermore, it makes mention to the Hispanic and native name of the town. Its motto is "Arraigo a la tierra y amor a la patria" [Rooted to the land and love to the fatherland].
The lower section of the shield depicts three corn plants, plus a yellow and red apple by a stone dam (Presa Las Chepas), representing agriculture. Two cattle tails are depicted for cattle-raising. Below an open book reads "Const 1917", alluding to the Constitution of 1917 created after the Revolution.
