The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano and adopted during the tenure of Municipal President Noel Ochoa Armendáriz (1989-1992). Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:
In the center of this shield it has been chopped and sliced, giving as a result four sections, its description from top to bottom and left to right [sic] is: In the first section appear two wolves carrying prey [to the left of a tree for the environment], this signifies that the inhabitants of Balleza succeed in making what they propose, a Tarahumara Indian forward to that of a Spaniard, these two blazons signify the fusion of two cultures, the fourth section carries from the front two cattle heads, one is a Spanish longhorn and the other is a Hereford cattle, signifying the achievements that the inhabitants of Balleza have had in cattle-raising. The Rivers San Juan and Agujas parting from two upper vertices are joined to the center and there leaves the Balleza River, the three rivers benefit the Municipality, the center is occupied by a symbol of the Jesuits which is a red sun with golden rays, in the center the initials I.S.H. whose significance is: Jesus Savior of Men, the year of 1608 which corresponds to the year of evangelization by the jesuit Juan Fonte.
At the top of the bordure is the name "BALLEZA CHIHUAHUA", with the code 08 to the left for the state and 07 to the right for the municipality; these are codes used by INEGI for
statistical purposes. In each corner is a horseshoe, indicating the common usage of the equine here. For the inner sections, alligator juniper leaves serve as the border. The shield is imposed on
parchment for usage in beef-related purposes. At the top of the parchment is "SN PABLO DE TEPEHUANES" [name of the original mission].
