Coat of Arms

The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano and adopted during the tenure of Municipal President Noel Ochoa Armendáriz (1989-1992). Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:

Imposed on a vertical rectangle of 5 modules tall and by 6 wide (Spanish field), it is cut and divided, this producing 4 sections, whose blazons are: The symbol of the Jesuits, who evangelized this region, three mountains in reference to the roughness of the topography, the Temple of the Jesuit mission of Santa Teresa, the Chihuahua to the Pacific Railway, which has been a trigger in the Progress of this municipality and in general the Tarahumara Mountains, the center of this shield is occupied to the manner of an escutcheon, by a pine with two wolves carrying prey and an esquipe [for extracting metals] or jug, signifying respectively the forestal wealth and tenacity which the inhabitants placed by the inhabitants of this municipality in all that they do and the esquipe of mining. The year of 1626 corresponds to the foundation of the mission by Julio Pascual. The bordure carries the heads of a Tarahumara and a Spaniard (fusion of two cultures); the shield is crested by a crown to remind us that these lands pertained to the Kingdom of Spain, its motto is "Amistad, Unión, Respeto" [Friendship, Union, Respect, displayed in a ribbon through the crown].

Two branches of alligator juniper serve as a wreath below the shield. The bordure also reads "GUAZAPARES CHIHUAHUA", with the code 08 to the left and 030 to the right, the code for the state and municipality respectively, used by INEGI for statistical purposes. At the bottom of the bordure, in the corners, are two crossed pickaxes and shovels, symbols of mining. The ribbon was not part of the original proposal; instead of the heads the architect originally proposed a hand-drawn oil winch for the symbols, these were modifications made by the council.
