Coat of Arms

image from chihuahua.gob.mx

I was informed nothing is known about the history of the coat of arms. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:

TThe shield is inscribed over a parchment with the years of foundation and the year of the instatement of the Municipality. Its motto: Unidad, Esfuerzo, Trabajo y Progreso [Unity, Effort, Work, and Progress]. In its center a centerpiece of wood [the contour of the municipality], the Municipal Code open and below the same, the Papigochi River which traverses the municipality; furthermore, symbols of agricultural and cattle production [corn plant, tree, and bundle of wheat; plus mountains and a crossed pitchfork and shovel; two horns signify abundance, a box outlines the roots of the plants], the shield is resolved in French field (ogive).

On the bordure of the central area, "MUNICIPIO MATACHI" is read at the top, 1895 at the bottom the year it became a municipality. In the scrolled parts at the top, "TIJARARE" and "SAN RAFAEL 1667"; the name of the original indigenous settlement here and the mission established by the Jesuits, respectively. The shield itself, not the inner area, is outlined in bronze. Daniel Rentería, 11 March 2025
