The coat of arms was designed by the architect Humberto Murillo Lozano, being approved by the council on 23 June 1989. Description according to Héraldica Municipal de Chihuahua:

Shield in which a Christian cross integrates the four sections, its blazons are: Helmet, arquebus, sword, and rosary representing the Spaniards, axes and bows represents the indigenous population, the Temple of San Francisco Javier makes allusion to the Catholic religion, two Jesuits remind us that they were the evangelizers of this region, over the cross appears the symbol of the order of Jesuits. The margin or bordure contains two clouds in reference to the hope it will rain, two cow heads and two bean seeds in reference to cattle-raising and agriculture. The year of 1676 makes reference to the rebuilding of the ranchería of Rahuérachi, original name of the population [RAHUEACHIC appears in a ribbon over the shield], the shield is crested by a crown, reminding us that these lands pertained to the Kingdom of Spain.

At the top of the bordure, it reads "SAN FCO. DE BORJA CHIHUAHUA", with the code 08 to the left for the state and 057 to the right for the municipality; these are codes used by INEGI for statistical purposes.
