Coat of Arms

from Wikimedia Commons

The coat of arms was designed by the painter Elio Carmichael, also the designer of the state's coat of arms, in 1980 or 1981 as he painted a mural of the state. Over a yellow square that is outlined, five simple orange grain shapes surround a white square with an orange center. Under this are three green triangles. The green triangles represent the forest activities. The white square is a Maya glyph that represents the sun, while the five Maya grain shapes represent agriculture as the principal activity of the municipality.
