Coat of Arms

from Facebook

The coat of arms of Puerto Morelos was approved on 12 April 2017, being designed by David Espinosa Álvarez, an artist with a degree in Information Design. It was adopted through a contest held by the Municipal Council, receiving 32 entries, with 29 fulfilling the requirements. The design reads "PUERTO MORELOS" above the shield and "QUINTANA ROO" to the right. The shield has a blue border, depicting the Leaning Lighthouse over a sandy beach which has stayed that way since Hurricane Beulah hit in 1967, considered a monument of the strength of its inhabitants. To the right is a sapodilla tree with a resin marking on it, signifying its usage to make chicle in the western communities of the municipality like Central Vallarta and Leona Vicario. Two leaves are also seen under this, representing a mangrove. To the left, in the water that clearly alludes to the sea is the shape of a barrier reef.
