Havelte is since 1 Jan 1998 part of the municipality of Westerveld in Drenthe,
the Netherlands.
Flagdescription: white, a red scandianavian-style cross with in center
an inescutceon argent two keys in saltire sable.
The cross on the flag symbolizes the former lords of Drenthe, the Bishops

Havelte consisted of the settlements Darp, Havelte, Uffelte, Wapserveen.
In 1228 the Bishop of Utrecht arrived with his army and defeated the
Drents here at the Bisschopsberg (Bishop's mountain; height: 20 metres).
Since then the bishops of Utrecht were ordained there as the Lords of Drenthe
for 5 centuries.
