Hieslum had (1958) 120; (1974) 79 inhabitants, divided into Atseburen and
Idserdaburen. There were several small lakes on the territory of this village,
NE of Workum city. The old dike (Hieslumerdijk, an extension of the Dedgumerdijk)
was dug up and is now used as a rural road.
Nickname: "Poelboaren" (puddlewaterers), "Roeken" (rooks)

refers to black clothed devote people (or not so devote, but there is no
pub in the village, not even a church).

at the hoist the narrowed municipal flag.
