Oost Gelre municipality

Oost Gelre is in Eastern Gelderland province, consisting of the former municipalities of Groenlo and Lichtenvoorde. Groenlo (also named Grol) is famous for the Grolsch beerbrewery.
Mello Luchtenberg spotted this webpage, containing two flags of the new municipality of Oost Gelre, one purple, one red, both charged with the municipal logo in white. The logo is rather complicated (and unusual). It consists of a lot of elements, depicted and explained on said page:

Ball (sports, games, clubs) - Flowers (flowerparade, creativity, strong bonds) - Farmhouse (countrylife) - Tree (green, nature, shelter) - English fort (historical richness) - Cyclist (recreation and recreative facilities) - Corn / grass (barley/beerhistory, growth, harvest) - Industry (employment, favorable climate) - Canon (Groenlo) - Four-leaved clover (luck, prosperity) - Clinking wine-glasses (Burgundian lifestyle, cosiness) - Cow (agrarian landscape) - Ring of people (co-operation, societies) - Cross (religion, parishes) - Lion on rock (Lichtenvoorde) - Dragon-fly (wealth of natural regions) - Midwinterhorn (music, societies, cultural history) - Three-cornered hat (carnival, creativity, strong connections).

From the point of view of flag design, the bunch of various hardly identifiable elements is generally a bad thing. We have enough of examples of such overburdened flags on FOTW to mention any. But it seems that the designers of the Oost Gelre flag found a way to satisfy the local bureaucracy (who no doubt required all those numerous symbols) and yet to make an outstanding and distinctive design!
This may well be one for the record in "Good Flag, Bad Flag" sequel of NAVA-member Ted Kay.

Oost Gelre Coat of Arms

Granted 15 December 2005

For the new municipality of Oost Gelre the High Council of Nobility designed a coat of arms. This was based on the old arms of the former municipalities of Groenlo and Lichtenvoorde. It consists of two elements, combining the castle of Lichtenvoorde and the lion of Groenlo.
The municipal council and the local historical societies approved of this design. It was granted by Royal resolution of 15 December 2005.
