Blazon: På raud grunn ein gull Andreaskross, laga med trilling strengar. In English: Gules a tripple saltire fretty or.
Approved by the royal resolution of 30 November 1984 after a drawing by Svein Magnus Håvarstein. [c2j87]
Municipal website also adds that Håvarstein based his drawing on the idea by Magnus Torgersen.
The design is reminiscent to the woven twigs used for traditional chair production that made Hjemeland famous. It is also said that the design represent the unity and friendship. Furthermore, it represent the union of three previous municipalities united in 1965 (Hjemeland, Fister, Årdal).
