Coat of arms

Shield Or with base wavy of Azure and Argent, two grapevines Purpure leafed Vert ordered per fess, in chief a rooster statant Gules. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "BARREIROS - AMARES".
Meaning:
The rooster is an unusual attribute of St. Peter, the local patron saint (the proposal had displayed the crossed keys as usual). The rooster is referring to the episode in St. Matthew 26, 69-74. The grapevines are symbolising viticulture, the predominant local business line. The base wavy is symbolising the local Cávado River.
