The new commune was established in 2013, when the former communes of Dornes and Paio Mendes merged. It was named after Our Lady of Pranto, the patron saint of former Dornes Commune (- 2013).

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and yellow.

Coat of arms

Shield Or, issuant from base a mountain Vert crowned by an embattled tower Sable with port Gules and window Argent and charged with a bar wavy charged with a barrulet wavy. The tower is flanked by three grain ears Azure tied Gules at dexter and a lyre Azure at sinister, in central chief a cross patty Gules charged with a Greek cross Argent (cross of the Christ Knights' Order). Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "DORNES".

Presentation of Dornes

Dornes Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Ferreira do Zêzere Municipality; it had 594 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 21.9 km².

Coat of arms

Shield chequered 3x3 of Azure and Or, all quarters Azure plain, all quarters Or charged, in central chief with a cross patty Gules charged with a Greek cross Argent (cross of the Christ Knights' Order), the flanks with a raven each and both ravens being respectant, in central base with a pine tree eradicated Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "PAIO MENDES".

Paio Mendes Commune was one of the pre-2013 communes of Ferreira do Zêzere Municipality; it had 495 inhabitants in 2011 and covered 8.6 km².
