About the Flag

It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of yellow and green.

The arms are Gules, between two fleur-d- lis Or a laurel tree Vert garnished Sable and fruited Or and issuant from a base of the same, under a crescent Argent in dexter chief and a sun Or in sinister chief. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VILA DA LOURINHÃ". Meaning:
Laurel trees are the most abundant native species of trees in the area and was already depicted on the oldest arms of the village. The fleur-de-lis are taken from the arms of Dom Jordão, the first benefactor of Lourinhã.

Presentation of Lourinhã

Lourinhã municipality had 23 265 inhabitants in 2001 and consists of eight communescovering 146,06 km². It is part of Lisboa District, traditional province Estremadura, 1999 ref. adm. region Estremadura eRibatejo, current C.C.R. / NUTS II Centro, pre-2002 C.C.R. / NUTS II Lisboa e Vale do Tejo, and NUTS III Oeste. Lourinhã is famous for its dinosaurs.
