Coat of arms

Shield quartered, all quarters Azure parted from one another by thin black lines; in 1st quarter a cross fleury Argent, charged with a Greek cross Gules; in 2nd quarter a mitre Or garnished Argent with crosslets Azure; in 3rd quarter a capital "S" Argent, in 4th quarter a capital "P" Argent and an irregular annulet of the same. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and blue scroll with inscription in black capitals "SÃO PEDRO DE RATES".

São Pedro de Rates, or simply Rates, Commune is one of the seven communes of Póvoa do Varzim Municipality; it had 2505 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 13.9 km².
