From the town homepage www.townofholden.net/:

"The Town of Holden was incorporated on January 9, 1741. Originally a rural farming area, we have grown into a prosperous, community-spirited municipality with a population, as of January 2000, of 15,911 residents. In June of 1951, the Town adopted a Selectmen-Town Manager form of government, one of the oldest in the Commonwealth."
