Background

Mtubatuba is a local municipality situated in the uMkhanyakude District of northern KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa close to the iSimangaliso (previously Greater St. Lucia) Wetland Park.

The name means "creator of opportunities" in isiZulu.

Mtubatuba Municipal Coat of Arms

The municipal coat of arms were originally granted to the Mtubatuba Health Committee and were registered by the South African Bureau of Heraldry on 30 December 1988 with the following blazon:

Arms:     Or, a fess dancetty Azure between in chief a bull's head caboshed Sable and in base a piece of sugar cane in fess proper between two pellets.
Crest:     On a grassy mount, a square-lipped (white) rhinoceros pascuant, proper.
Wreath and mantling:    Or and Azure.
Motto:    Respice, Aspice, Prospice.
