Current Flag

Description of current flag:
The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a 9-stripes flag with horizontal alternating white and blue stripes. The flag has a white rectangular canton, width 1/3 of total width, height 5/9 of total height. In the canton is a red rampant lion armed and crowned golden.
Meaning:
According to Veddeler 2003 p.154 the lion is taken from the coat of arms of the city. In the arms of former municipality he was superimposing a silver shield divided by 7seven blue barrulets.

Description of banner:
It is a 5-stripes banner with vertical alternating white and blue stripes. The flag has a white squarish bannerhead. In the bannerhead is a red rampant lion armed and crowned golden.

Flag and banner were approved by Regierungspräsident Münster on 31 October 1978, the coat of arms already on 9 February 1972.
