Gunzenhausen Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, over a bar wavy Argent in base the half timber construction Or of a house.
Meaning:
Gunzenhausen was first mentioned as a city in 1349 and was acquired by the Burgraves of Nürnberg<7i> from the Zollern kin in 1368. The half timber construction, often blasoned as a house, is a canting element. It appeared first on a local seal with prints since 1402. Later depictions showed the perspective view of a complete house. The bar wavy, representing the Altmühl River, was added in the 19th century. In 1937 the house was replaced by the half timber construction from the first seal.
