Hamburger Kanu Club

There is only little information available on the webpage of HKC. The predecessors of the club had been established in the 1920ies. The club has more than 350 members in 2012 and is one of the biggest German canoeing clubs. The boat house is on Schwanenwyk near Alster Lake.

In 1923 the watersports department of SV St. Georg was established. In 1924 the Bootclub "Roland" was established. Both clubs merged on 20 December 1933. In 1977 Wassersport St.Pauli joined the club. Due to a planned construction their boat house in Övelgönne had to be fallen close. The Hamburger Kanu Club overtook the flag of SV St.Georg. It is a white pennant divided three red stripes starting at the top and bottom hoist and the fly. The stripes are cotized white-black. The intersection point of stripes is superimposed by a red disc cotized white black containing the white Hamburg castle in current design.

Former Pennant

The difference is the older version of the Hamburg castle.

Vertical Pennant

[Hamburger Kanu Club (vertical) (CC, Germany)]
It is the same like former pennant with Hamburg castle rotated anti clockwise 90° (standing upright again).

Arbeiter Turnverein "Vorwärts" von 1893 Hamburg

The vertical pennant probably belongs to a canoeing department of the club. Today exists a successor no longer being affiliated with the labourer': athletics movement in Germany.
The pennant is red as usual for socialist organizations. Shifted to the top is a cotized white oval containing the logo of the movement. The upper half is part of an athletics' cross. The lower part is a "T". All is superimposed by a bigger "S". The logo is symbolizing the motto of the movement "Frisch, Frei, Stark, Treu" (frisky, free, strong, true).
