The flag is a horizontal background featuring the CoA composed of a cross, an anchor and a trident, featuring on top the Greek initials after its former denomination, Royal Hellenic Navy (Βασιλικόν
Ναυτικόν, Vasilikón Naftikón, abbreviated ΒΝ) and above that the motto "Μέγα τὸ
τῆς θαλάσσης κράτος" ("Great is the maritime state"), inside a shield. The color horizontal stripes are a middle red stripe with two equally sized white stripes and a blue outline, all horizontally laid and behind the
